Details:
The directives issued by staff on 3/13/20 currently reflects that sick leave is not available for use for an employee who has children that are not sick but do not have a caregiver due to schools or day cares being closed. Accrued vacation and comp time may be used as well as up to 40 hours of advanced vacation. Allowing for use of sick leave would not be unique to Roeland Park.
Staff can accrue up to 960 hours or 480 hours of sick leave (if hired after 3/1/2013). 11 of 32 full time employees have children that would require some type of caregiver. 5 are police personnel and 2 are department directors (essential staff).
Attached is a redline of the 3/13/20 Personnel Related directives provided to staff. The changes shown reflect allowing the use of sick leave for an employee to stay at home while making arrangements for childcare in addition to other material changes proposed.
