With recent increases in the number of new COVID cases along with increased hospitalizations, health officials have recommended masks to be worn by both vaccinated and non-vaccinated persons.  Attached is Health Order 002 issued by Dr. Lemaster on 8-5-21 which provides recommendations which support implementing mask requirements.

The resolution refers to the Johnson County mask order for consistency and employs similar provisions as the mask order adopted recently by Prairie Village.

The attached memo from Chief Morris spells out how the Police Department will approach enforcement of a local mask requirement. Education and voluntary participation will be the focus.

A resolution takes affect upon approval where an ordinance must first be published in the paper before becoming effective.  In addition this is a temporary action more suited to a resolution, where ordinances create permanent regulation.

The masking requirement would be applicable inside of City facilities for patrons and staff, a provision that improves safety for the working environment of city staff.
